The roof no longer has to be a passive surface that only protects the building. In the new world of building envelopes and energy, the roof can become an active system — generating electricity, supporting the architecture, and still performing first and foremost as a high-quality roof.
What are solar roof tiles?
Solar roof tiles combine roofing functionality with photovoltaic energy generation. Instead of adding a separate, visually dominant system on top of an existing roof, the solar component is integrated into the roof language itself.

The key difference: a system on the roof vs. a system that is the roof
A conventional solar installation typically consists of two separate layers: an existing roof and a panel system installed above it. An integrated solar roof is designed so that solar generation becomes part of the architectural and technical roof solution. This is the core idea behind VOLTECTA: the roof is not merely a platform for equipment — it becomes part of the energy system.
What is BIPV?
BIPV stands for Building Integrated Photovoltaics. It describes photovoltaic systems that are integrated into the building envelope. In roofing, this means bringing energy generation into the roof element itself or making it an integral part of the roofing system.
Why roof quality comes first
A high-quality solar tile must be more than an electrical component. It has to work within a roof system capable of dealing with water, wind, heat, temperature changes, loads, detailing and long-term maintenance. At VOLTECTA, the building envelope comes first.
Waterproofing and drainage
Good integrated design considers water flow, junctions, ridges, edges, openings and finishing details from the beginning. A roof that looks excellent in photographs but is poorly resolved at its interfaces is not a high-quality roof.
Cleaner architecture
For homes in which the roof is a major architectural feature, solar roof tiles can support a cleaner and more unified appearance than a highly visible panel array installed above conventional roofing.
The VOLTECTA approach
VOLTECTA does not treat a solar tile as a standalone product. It must work within a complete system: roofing, structure, waterproofing, drainage, architecture and energy generation. A successful solar roof should look right, work right and perform first and foremost as a high-quality roof. Not panels on the roof. The roof becomes energy.
Before you begin
For a new project or an existing roof, the best starting point is to review the roof plan, slopes, orientations, openings and existing infrastructure. VOLTECTA can begin with an initial review of roof plans, architectural visualizations or building photographs to assess suitability for an integrated solar roof.
